The Outback 3.6R Limited upgrades you from the 170 horsepower 2.5 liter four cylinder engine to a 256 horsepower six cylinder engine. The 3.6R comes with a five speed automatic instead of the continuously variable transmission. Fuel economy is 18/25 instead of 22/29. Most people find the four cylinder more than adequate, but the six cylinder is buttery smooth and has enough torque to pull tree stumps.
