The day is coming, sooner than you may think, that you will buy a Planet Subaru that drives itself. Google has safely tested just such a prototype vehicle, driving it several hundred thousand miles, accident-free, with a person in the vehicle but without any human assistance.
No such Subaru is currently available for sale, but right now you can buy one with many of the technologies that will eventually allow cars to drive themselves.
First introduced as an option on the 2013 Outback and Legacy, and now available as an option on the 2014 Forester, a Subaru equipped with EyeSight uses stereo cameras and object recognition software to provide a wide variety of safety technologies. Unlike the inferior systems produced by other manufacturers that mount the sensors down low, where visibility is quite limited, Subaru positions its sensors as close to the roof as possible for best vision.
Here is a video that gives a nice overview of Eyesight's capabilities.
