Which Subaru is right for me?
| |
The 2014 Forester
is considered a "compact sport utility vehicle." It shares a
"platform" with the Impreza and Crosstrek. (A platform is the chassis----the frame,
or basic underpinnings of a car.) It is taller than an Impreza and has
more ground clearance. It has more interior room than the Impreza
because of the extra height and length. It comes in several trim levels, from well
equipped to ridiculously well equipped. Now available with Subaru's Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission, the Forester gets 32mpg highway. It is also available with a
turbocharged engine. They are priced from the low $20's to the low $30's.

The 2013 Impreza 2.5i Sedan is Subaru's most compact vehicle...but it's quite roomy inside. It is similar in size to a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic, but with all wheel drive and even better engineering. Rated at 36 highway miles per gallon, the 2013 Impreza is the most fuel-efficient all wheel drive vehicle sold in America. All 2013 Imprezas are very well equipped, including features such as a telescopic steering column and seven airbags. Imprezas start in the upper teens.

The 2013 Impreza 2.0i Hatchback is an Impreza 2.5i Sedan with a cargo area and hatch instead of a trunk. They start in the upper teens.

| The 2013 Impreza Sport is an Impreza 2.0i Wagon with special 17-inch gunmetal grey alloys, roof rails, body color rocker spoiler, unique sport fabric, fog lights, and All Weather Package (heated seats, mirrors, wipers). We're not kidding about the "sport" designation; they really do look bodacious. They are priced in the low $20's.
| |
| The 2013 XV Crosstrek has the underpinnings of an Impreza 2.0i Sport
(above), so it shares the Impreza's basic dimensions. Subaru gave the
Crosstrek unique bumpers and grill, aggressive 17-inch silver/black
alloys, wheel arch cladding, black rocker spoiler, privacy glass, and
a free driving dog. With almost
nine inches of ground clearance, think of it as a mini-monster truck that gets
33mph highway. They are priced in the low to mid $20's. | |
The 2013 Legacy
is a sedan that is built on
the same platform as the Outback. It is a full size car, comparable to
a
Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, but with all
wheel drive. With the 2.5 liter four cylinder engine, the Legacy is
available with Subaru's Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission,
which earns it 32mpg on the highway. The Legacy is also available with
a 3.6 liter six cylinder engine. They are priced from the low $20's to
the low $30's.
| |
The 2013 WRX is available as a sedan or hatchback. With a turbocharged, 265 horsepower engine, it is very fast, with a zero to sixty time under 5 seconds. They are priced in the mid to upper $20's.
| |
The 2013 WRX STi
is also available as a sedan or hatchback. With 305 horsepower, it will
blow your mind. Subaru's research shows that the lucky people who buy STi's would buy a WRX but they have more money to afford the very top of the line. They are priced in the mid to upper $30's.

The 2013 BRZ
is Subaru's brand new sports car. The "B" stands for Boxer engine, the "R" stands for Rear wheel drive, and the "Z" stands for Zenith,
as in the highest point of an astronomical object. It is the only
rear wheel drive vehicle in Subaru's line-up. Available with a six
speed manual or Subaru's first six speed automatic transmission, the
BRZ won't lay rubber at the drag strip like a turbocharged WRX, but
will thrill you in the corners. Standard equipment includes 17"
alloys, navigation, and the shortest journey to bliss of any
car this side of a Ferrari. Supplies of the BRZ are extremely limited. Priced in the upper $20's.

The 2013 Tribeca
is Subaru's "flagship," our biggest and most luxurious vehicle. It is
constructed on a stretched Outback platform, so in terms of proportions
and road presence, it is like a tall Outback. Is is the ultimate
Subaru
and simply unbelievable in the snow, pounding inclement weather like a
prize fighter. It comes standard with a 3.6 liter six cylinder
engine.
Since 2010, it is available only in a seven passenger seating
configuration, the only Subaru available this way. The Honda Pilot,
Nissan Murano, and Toyota Highlander are comparable, if by "comparable"
you mean "half as good as a Tribeca." They are priced in the mid to
upper $30's.
