Planet Subaru installed the first "cloud-based" Subaru car wash in the United States, continuing a tradition of green technology innovation in automotive retail.

Homes and businesses in Hanover depend on water sourced from three underground aquifers that are currently stressed by development and climate change. We were a larger consumer of water in the town, and we identified an opportunity to significantly reduce our use of underground water.

By the numbers:
  • 48,672:  estimated gallons of town ground water saved annually.
  • 23,698:  size of rain catchment area on the Planet roof, in square feet. That's a little more than half an acre.
  • 1,600:    gallons of total system storage capacity.
  • 267:       vehicle washes, at six gallons per wash, provided by full tanks.
  • 10:         days the tanks last without additional rain, at an average of 26 washes per day.
  • 332:       days in the first year we were able to rely entirely on rainwater.

You're looking down through 12 feet of remarkably clear and clean water, straight to the bottom of the tank. We filter the water four times before it touches your Subaru: on our roof, in the downspout pipe, before the tanks, and at the pressure washer.

Rainwater is naturally soft (with fewer minerals) so we use less soap and your car has fewer spots after drying.

We also conserve water by using efficient pressure wands. And just like an exotic luxury dealership, our gleam team washes your Subaru by hand to protect your paint, using less water than a mechanical car wash.

After washing the cars, we process the water by collecting it for transport via tanker trunk to a specialized treatment facility nearby.
