What is Subaru's newest safety system, Driver Focus?
Driver Focus addresses one of the most pressing challenges currently facing auto safety: distracted driving. Each day in the United States, more than 1,000 people are injured in crashes reported to have involved a distracted driver. As an industry leader in safety, Subaru has developed Driver Focus, a state-of-the-art system to help address distracted driving for both new and experienced drivers.
Driver Focus is a driver monitoring system that uses infrared sensors and facial recognition software to identify signs of driver fatigue or driver distraction. Driver Focus works with Subaru's award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology to reduce the chance of an accident. And because the system can identify specific drivers, Driver Focus can keep track of five different people and remember their presets for seat position, climate, multifunction display and more. It will even give you a personal greeting when you hop in!
If you look away from the road for three seconds, the system beeps to warn you. If you continue to ignore the warnings, the Subaru will slow to a stop. If you're unresponsive (say, a medical emergency--the system can use the Starlink system to contact a live operator to speak with you.
Debuting on the all-new 2019 Forester, Subaru boasts the first application of this advanced technology in the compact SUV segment. It is standard on Touring models. Expect the technology to appear on other Forester models and other Subaru vehicles in the next few years.Â
