Executive Summary:

Expected release date at Planet Subaru: spring of calendar year 2026.

The 2022 model was all new, the first since 2013. That means the 2026 version will be the fifth model year of this generation. If this were one of Subaru's volume models, including Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek, we would expect an all-new version the five- or six-year mark, but the specialty vehicles (e.g. BRZ, WRX) need to go longer because they sell in boutique quantities. To keep the vehicle fresh during a longer product cycle, Subaru makes incremental changes as the years go by. For example, look at the changes they made last year to the 2025 model:

  • BRZ Limited models, whether equipped with the six-speed manual or automatic transmission, feature new upholstery with deeper blacks set off by bold red accents on the seat bolsters and headrests. The new theme also extends to the door panel armrests.

  • Performance upgrades include improvements to the suspension and steering systems as well as the engine and transmission. Suspension damping rates have been updated and the electric power steering system has been retuned, both intended to give drivers better feel and controllability at the limits of grip.

  • Manual transmission models now include a SPORT mode activated from a button on the center console, providing more aggressive throttle mapping for quicker response. Automatic transmission models have a new shift logic that can execute downshifts at higher RPM than in previous models, helping to keep the engine in its powerband during sporty driving.


Sooner rather than later, Subaru will offer a modest refresh somewhere in the middle of the roughly ten-year generation. This "Big Minor Change" will typically include a new front fascia and headlights, new wheels, some interior updates, maybe some new suspension bits to get more smiles per hour. But, ever tight-lipped with its product plans, Subaru has made no announcements. As they do, you'll find them here.
